Waldren & Candace Kreitlow Katie Waldren & Candace Kreitlow, as the duo Heartwood, create elegant, energetic music with a myriad of instruments including the Celtic harp, lap & hammered dulcimer, guitar, fiddle and an exceptional blend of voices. Both Candace & Katie are seasoned musicians and recording artists with years of experience. Heartwood’s repertoire includes traditional and contemporary American and British Isles folk music, as well an abundance of original material, all displaying a strong Celtic /Appalachian flair. Though folk in nature, Heartwood’s music has a classic and elegant sound. Heartwood performs and gives workshops at festivals and music gatherings, entertains at coffee houses, Shakespearean classic theater, gallery openings, weddings, libraries and with the Madison Wisconsin folk community. They have produced three unique recordings together; Waterdance, Heartwood, and Night Dancer and are included in Narada’s collection of international harpists CD entitled Faces of the Harp. In addition, Candace has recorded two award winning recordings with her daughter Holly as the duo, Generations and Katie has authored three dulcimer instructional books and teaches workshops throughout the country.
