We will teach workshops and perform a Friday night concert at the Gateway Dulcimer Music Festival.
WORKSHOP BY CANDACE
Title: BASIC GUITAR ACCOMPANIMENT
Instruments: Guitar, voice
Level: Beginner - Adv. beginner
Description: This class will help you to bring your guitar and voice together. Using basic strumming and picking patterns, along with basic chord instructions on the guitar, students will progress from simple "boom-chick" and "bump-ditty" strums, to finger picking, and combinations of both. A great crash course for those who would like to accompany themselves while they sing. Traditional songs plus some Heartwood and Generations repetoire will be used.

Title: THE INGENIOUS JIG
Instruments: Lap dulcimer
Level: Intermediate +
Description: Teach your fingers to step lively. This class will introduce the strumming patterns and techniques that are needed to create the rhythm for playing jigs on the LD. A spirited time signature that is overlooked by many players. Students will learn how to incorporate the 'gallop' into their strum, while getting a great start on a collection of jigs, slip jigs, and slides.

Title: SPIRITUALS
Instruments: Lap dulcimer
Level: Adv. beginner - Intermediate
Description: Bring out the soul of your dulcimer. From a colorful collection of Spirituals, this workshop will help you to discover exciting rhythms and accompany gentle/soulful melodies. Arrangements provide for and encourage the use of several lap dulcimer techniques and styles.
Pre-requisite: Bring a capo (some for sale). Singing encouraged!
Title: PLAYING CHORDS IN THE BOX
Instruments: Hammered dulcimer
Level: Beginner +
Description: Become visually friendly with the hammered dulcimer. Learn to listen to your instrument while you accompany simple melodies. Class includes basic hammer techniques and shows you how to locate major chord patterns without reading music. Great class for families, singers, and any first-timers.

Title: CHRISTMAS BLOWOUT
Instruments: Hammered dulcimer
Level: Intermediate - Advanced
Description: Update your winter repertoire with an interesting collection of seasonal solo & duet arrangements for hammered dulcimer. As many as time will allow for. See how carols can be knit together into medleys, and how simple percussive patterns add spice.
Title: ESSENTIAL TECHNIQUES & ORNAMENTS
Instruments: Lap dulcimer
Level: Intermediate - Advanced
Description: Learn how to creatively integrate hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, harmonics, trills, triplets, and vibrato into a song.

Description: Gives a short summary of the basic techniques used in 3 different lap dulcimer styles: strumming, flat picking, and finger picking, with tune arrangements for each style.

Title: TUNE JUNKIE

Level: Intermediate - Advanced
Description: This workshop will load students with as many tunes as time will allow. Repertoire draws from many different styles and themes.
